2. Desert Development Programme : Ministry of Environment and Forests
3. National Watershed Development Project for Rainfed Areas : Ministry of Rural Development
Which of the above pairs is/are correctly matched?
Show answer
Answer: D. None
Verdict
The answer is none. All three programme and ministry pairs are wrong.
Analysis
Pair 1 is INCORRECT. The Drought Prone Areas Programme was administered by the Ministry of Rural Development, not the Ministry of Agriculture. Pair 2 is INCORRECT. The Desert Development Programme was also a Rural Development programme, not an Environment and Forests one. Pair 3 is INCORRECT. The National Watershed Development Project for Rainfed Areas sat with the Ministry of Agriculture, not with Rural Development, which is the reverse of what the question asserts.

How to crack it
The construction here is a cyclic swap: two land programmes are moved from Rural Development to other ministries while an agriculture programme is moved into Rural Development. When two of the three ministries in a set are plausible homes for every listed scheme, check whether the examiner has rotated them, because a rotation makes every pair wrong and None the answer. Note the naming clue as well, since watershed development for rainfed areas is an agronomic mandate and reads as agriculture rather than rural development.
