Show answer
Answer: D. Rajasthan
Verdict
The answer is Rajasthan. It explored an artificial inland port connected to the sea by a long navigational channel.
Analysis
The Government of Rajasthan planned an inland shipping port at Jalore to be connected to the Arabian Sea by developing a channel along the Kutch Creek. The proposal is unusual precisely because Rajasthan is landlocked, which is what makes it examinable. Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka are coastal States and would have no need of a long artificial navigational channel. Chhattisgarh is landlocked but lies far inland in the peninsular interior with no comparable creek route to the sea.

How to crack it
The stem itself tells you the State must be landlocked, because a coastal State does not build a long navigational channel to reach the sea. That halves the options at once. Then ask which landlocked State lies close enough to a coast to make such a channel conceivable, and Rajasthan's proximity to the Rann and the Kutch creeks answers it. Reading the engineering premise of a news item for what it implies about geography is quicker than recalling the report.
