Recently, linking of which of the following rivers was undertaken?
Show answer
Answer: B. Godavari and Krishna
Verdict
The answer is Godavari and Krishna. The Pattiseema lift irrigation scheme linked the two rivers in Andhra Pradesh.
Analysis
The long term plan was to divert Godavari water through the Polavaram project, but because that dam remained under construction the State government used the Pattiseema Lift Irrigation Scheme to move Godavari water to the Krishna, and the work commenced in September 2015. It was presented as the first river interlinking actually executed in the country. The other three pairings, Cauvery with Tungabhadra, Mahanadi with Son and Narmada with Tapti, are proposals or unrelated basins rather than completed linkages of this period.

How to crack it
For an infrastructure question phrased as recently undertaken, the test is not which link is planned but which was actually executed and reported. India's interlinking programme has many proposals and very few completions, so the answer is almost always the one that made the news as a commissioning. Keep the peninsular link proposals separate from the Himalayan ones, and note which single link has actually been delivered, because that is the examinable fact.
