Analysis
With the establishment of the Mughal empire, the Mughal School of painting originated in the reign of Akbar in 1560 A.D. Emperor Akbar was keenly interested in the art of painting and architecture. During his reign, an illustrated manuscript of the Tuti-nama appears to be the first work of the Mughal School.
Under Jahangir, painting acquired greater charm, refinement and dignity. He had great fascination for nature and took delight in the portraiture of birds, animals and flowers. Under Jahangir, special focus was paid on portrait painting and paintings of animals. Mughal painting reached its climax under the reign of Jahangir.
Jahangir shifted the emphasis from illustrated manuscripts (as was done during Akbar's time) to album and individual portrait.
