Which one of the following is the exhaust pipe emission from Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles, powered by hydrogen?
Show answer
Answer: D. Water vapour
Verdict
Correct answer: Water vapour → Option (d).
Analysis
Fuel cell electric vehicles (FCEVs) are powered by hydrogen. They are more efficient than conventional internal combustion engine vehicles and produce no harmful tailpipe emissions – they only emit water vapor and warm air.
The hydrogen fuel cell combines hydrogen from the fuel tank with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, which powers the motor. The only by-product of this process is water vapour (and heat), which is emitted through the exhaust pipe.
