Analysis
The correct sequence is 3, 2, 1, 4, so the answer is (b).
The events fall in this order. Air India was nationalised and became India's national carrier on 1 August 1953. India's largest bank, the Imperial Bank of India, was renamed the State Bank of India on 1 July 1955. The first democratically elected Communist Party government outside Europe came to power in Kerala on 5 April 1957, with the CPI leader E. M. S. Namboodiripad as Chief Minister. Goa was officially ceded to India on 19 December 1961, after 400 years of Portuguese rule.

How to crack it
Anchor on the two events you are surest of and let them cut the grid. Goa in 1961 is the latest of the four and Kerala's communist government in 1957 the second latest, and only option (b) places 4 last with 1 immediately before it. You rarely need the full ordering: find the earliest or latest item, check which options honour it, and then break the tie with your second firmest date. That approach converts a four-way ordering task into two simple comparisons.
